The Institution has taken measures for correct handling of the waste and for maximum prevention of contamination through across the hospital and college campus.Linkage has been signed a MOU with Aseptic System – Bio Medical Management Company, located at Ettankulam – Tirunelveli district for the disposal of Bio Hazardous waste. Bio Medical Waste includes glass, aerosols, batteries, infected waste like soiled dressings, body fluids, needles, radiological and cytotoxic waste, pathological waste and clinical waste.
Bio hazardous waste are collected daily in prescribed colour containers and bins which are labeled with the bio hazard symbol indicating the nature of the waste. The trained staffs should check the bags are effectively sealed with a tag or rubber bands. The bags to be emptied when 2/3 full. It is then taken to common biomedical treatment facility located on the rear end of the hospital. The person responsible for collection of the Bio Medical waste carries a check list to maintain the records such as name of the user department, type of waste and signature of user department. No untreated Bio medical waste is kept beyond 24 hours in our premises. Finally, the transportation treatment and disposal of waste is carried out by the contractor identified by the Tamilnadu Pollution control board.
Electronic wastes such as damaged parts of computer, batteries, Computer accessories and spare parts of mobile phones accumulated from the campus are properly collected in separate place under the label scrap and disposed by an outsourcing agent Mr. N. Vincent of Kulasekharam.
The institution has entrenched a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 75 KL/day for water recycling. There is a regular analysis of the treated water at an interval of 2 months by an ISO certified testing laboratory. An annual maintenanence contract for sewage treatment plant is made with Clar Aqua (P) Ltd, Velachery Chennai. We also maintain a CIP pump cum RO FEED PUMP for maintaining the water quality.The domestic sewage from the college campus is collected in a sump which is then passed into the aerated tank after which filtration is done and sludge is separated. Finally the water is chlorinated and is collected in a treated effluent sump which then used for garden purpose
he institution has advanced solid waste management system“NOWASTE (Fuel Free General Solid waste management system)” on 27.04.2017 in the back side of the ladies hostel. Its model number is STNW 60. to reduce and eliminate adverse impact of waste materials to the human health and environment. The institution took all the precautionary measures to make the campus plastic free.Dust bins are placed on every classrooms and departments of every floor. Waste collected from all the floors are emptied into a compost pit and set burnt every evening.
We have maintained ‘The fuel free general solid waste management system’ or ‘No waste Management system’ for effective waste management by smouldering. Napkin incinerator is maintained in the ladies hostel to dispose the used napkins effectively.Waste collected from the college campus are again separated as degradable, non degradable and food wastes, which is then segregated in 3 separate dustbins located infront of the campus.The Food, Vegetable and Paper wastes are then dried in 6 steel tray in direct sunlight near the ladies hostel and then it is put in the nowaste equipment which was a no fuel burner.
